Abstract

This presentation is a review of scientific reports in the scope of molecular genetics of European bison (Bison bonasus), in the years 1994 – 2011. Studies were grouped into chapters referring to coding sequences, non-coding sequences and the mitochondrial DNA. The first chapter includes among others publications concerning sequencing of gene fragments and analysis of their polymorphism. The part relating to non-coding sequences includes reports on microsatellite and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which are valuable genetic markers. This article summarized in a coherent entity the most significant achievements of European bison genome analysis, so this publication can be used as introductory into the world
of molecular genetics of European bison.
