Abstract

The herd of European bison in Zachodniopomorskie voivodship exists since 1980, and is the most isolated free ranging bison herd in Poland. Since 2003 its numbers begun to decrease, so since 2005 it was supplemented with animals from Białowieska Primeval Forest, Wolin National Park, Niepołomice and Kobio´r Forest District. As a result of the project run by Zachodnio Pomorskie Towarzystwo Przyrodnicze (West Pomeranian Naturalist Society) established now are two new herds in Forest Districts of Dobsrzany and Łobez. Total numbers of European bison within the voivodship is now 61. The target number for this population was set for 100 individuals.
