Abstract

The present state of the populations of the European bison (Bison bonasus) “Berezinsko-borisovskaya” and “Volozhynskaya”, natural food supply in their habitats are reviewed. The size of “Berezinsko-borisovskaya” population of European bison increased from 7 to 27 individuals, but of “Volozhynskaya” population of European bison increased from 15 to 80 individuals. The ecological characteristics of populations (population dynamics, birth rate, death rate, indexes of fertility birth) are presented. The problems of population management are discussed.
